Peter Gjelsten started learning violin when he was 6 years old with Konstanze Artmann. Then at age 9 he switched to his current teacher, Lynley Culliford. Peter has been playing in orchestras ever since he was 10 years old. He plays as Assistant Concertmaster in the Wellington Youth Orchestra, played as the concertmaster of Wellington College combined orchestra, and in the first violin section of the NZ Secondary Schools Symphony Orchestra and National Youth Orchestra. Peter also loves playing chamber music and recently won the NZSS Chamber Music competition with his string quartet ‘16 Strings,’ playing viola. He also won the 2019 Senior Arts Person of the Year at Wellington College and won the Junior Division Sonata Celebration in 2017 on piano. Peter enjoys teaching and busking with his friends. He also looks forward to attending Chilton Music School 2020 and practicing more than ever before.
